What did you do prior to TPG?
| |
| |
After
college, I worked for Howard Dean (who had just won his
first election to serve as Governor of Vermont) helping
the state expand health coverage for low-income families.
I then spent two years in Washington, D.C., advising states
on healthcare policy before returning to business school.
From school I joined Deloitte Consulting’s healthcare
practice. After a few years of consulting, I started a
business that now operates three locations providing products
and educational services to expecting and new parents from
pregnancy to preschool.

Why did you select TPG?
| |
| |
The biggest factor was the people I met. Intelligent, grounded, friendly and interesting. In addition, after five years working with one company, I was excited about the breadth of opportunities provided by Parthenon’s dual-case structure and relatively short projects. The private equity practice was also a draw for me, as I enjoy the challenge of evaluating investment opportunities. Finally, I knew the limited travel model would mean more time in the office with my colleagues and more time at home with my family.

How would you describe your case work?
| |
| |
There is a very distinct “Parthenon approach” to client work. This approach almost always includes a healthy dose of quantitative analysis. It’s the kind of work I enjoy most, and it consistently delivers exceptional value to the client.

What industries have you worked on at Parthenon?
| |
| |
I have a strong interest in consumer and retail businesses, and Parthenon seems to attract a disproportionate number of clients who are leaders in these industries. Between the strategy practice and the private equity practice, it’s never hard to get on a consumer case.

What was your favorite case?
| |
| |
My favorite case so far was an acquisition diligence for a large restaurant chain. We combined statistical analysis with primary customer research to develop interesting perspectives on the company’s prospects. And we were able to spend some time “in the field” testing multiple menu items.

How would you describe the culture at Parthenon?
| |
| |
One of
the things that has impressed me the most about Parthenon
is that it is a true meritocracy. Opportunity, responsibility
and compensation are all driven by performance. And yet
the culture is very collaborative and not at all competitive.
There is just a lot of confidence and mutual respect. It’s
refreshing and motivating.

What are you interests outside of work?
| |
| |
Whenever I can, I like to spend time in Vermont with my family. Preferably in the woods, on skis, after a big snowfall.
