What did you do prior to TPG?

A   Prior to joining Parthenon, I managed the turnaround of a luxury retail business in Dallas, Texas. My professional experience prior to that role was in debt origination at Merrill Lynch and within Treasury at Toyota Motor Credit Corporation.

Q   Why did you choose to come to Parthenon?

A   I wanted to join a smaller firm specializing in strategy. It was Parthenon’s entrepreneurial spirit, growth ambition (in the London office) and people that convinced me that this was the right place for me.

Q   Can you give an example of case work you have been involved with?

A   I’d say one of the most challenging and unique cases in my career at Parthenon dealt with developing the analytical tools necessary to conduct a strategic war gaming exercise for a global automotive OEM. I was responsible for managing and developing an economic model of large cars used to demonstrate how major decisions made by global auto OEMs could affect their respective financial performance. The model captured supply and demand curves for each competitor and for the market as a whole, pricing models, channel economics, shared economics with other businesses, effects of mergers between companies and the full economics of new product launches.

Q   What was your favourite case?

A   My favorite case has to be one of my recent ones, in which Parthenon was involved with assisting a for-profit K-12 (schools) operator in India with its five-year strategic plan. It wasn’t just that the case was interesting and challenging or that I was in my hometown for a few weeks; it was also the satisfaction I received from feeling that I had made a difference and provided real value for the client after only six weeks. It’s not every day that the client gives you a big hug after the meeting as opposed to the usual handshake!

Q   What leadership opportunities exist at Parthenon?

A   Associates are presented with various leadership opportunities early on in their careers at Parthenon. I have had several occasions in which I have been presented with these opportunities during cases with clients: Case Team Leader opportunities two years into the Principal level; representing Parthenon at several business school presentations; and playing an important role between associates and management to maintain an engaging but fun office environment.

Q   What internal roles have you been involved with?

A   While I have always been involved in recruiting for the summer principal/ principal roles, this summer, I had the opportunity to lead the summer principal program. I have also played an active role in the associate/ principal training program in London.

Q   How would you describe the people and the culture at Partheon?

A   We’d be fooling ourselves if we pretended consultants don’t have to work hard and put in some late hours … that’s part of the job. However, this part of the job becomes a lot more engaging and fun when you are working with people that are always have a positive and enthusiastic attitude. As an ex-banker, I was already used to the late nights and last-minute deadlines. What I wasn’t used to was working with people who made work enjoyable and interesting even at silly hours in the morning. We really aren’t kidding about the ‘smart, driven and friendly’ environment. To give you an idea of how great the people are, I recently got married in India and about 4-5 colleagues (almost half the London office) made the trip for 5 days!
