What did you do prior to The Parthenon Group?
I worked for 2.5 years in an Indian textile company (Himatsingka Seide Ltd). My designation was Project Executive. I was part of a 3-person core team which helped the company setup a new business division to manufacture high-end bed linen adding $100 million in revenues. I also participated in 2 overseas M&As before moving on to get my MBA.
Why did you select The Parthenon Group?
Parthenon Mumbai offered the combination of working in a well reputed-strategy consulting firm with the added excitement of a start-up office. Moreover, I was impressed with Parthenon’s team and could see myself working with them. As a firm, Parthenon is large enough to cover the breadth of knowledge and experience expected of a top-end consulting firm while small enough to hold annual company meetings without spending more than the gdp of some countries!
What types of clients/industries have you worked on at The Parthenon Group?
Parthenon has given me the opportunity to do work in the education sector in India. This sector needs significant private participation and investment for improvement and thanks to my association with Parthenon I have been fortunate to be a part of it. I see my work in this industry as a contribution towards the betterment of the education system here thus of special importance to India as a whole which makes my job gratifying on a personal level as well as challenging.
What internal roles have you played at The Parthenon Group?
Everyone at Parthenon is given responsibilities beyond their “job description.” In my first week at Parthenon, I was given the responsibility of making the office movie to be played at the annual company meeting. I had no clue what to do but it turned out to be quite a fun experience for everyone in the office. Additionally, I am involved in Principal recruiting at ISB which I really like as I get to go back to school time and again.
What was your favorite case to date?
It was a case addressing market entry strategy in higher education for a diversified Indian business group. It was a great learning experience as we developed a comprehensive business/ financial model for a higher education company which had the potential to become one of the largest education providers in the world. Interestingly, the client had initially set out to enter a less profitable market segment but during the client pitch (CDA stage) we convinced them that higher education was the right path for them.
What do you like about your home office's location?
Mumbai is a great place to live. Very cosmopolitan, very professional and full of life. It has something for everyone, be it theatre, movies, street food, architecture, adventure sports or weekend getaways. The office is in down town Mumbai, the heart of all activity, so there are plenty of places to head out to after work. I personally like the people of Mumbai who are “bindaas” (local slang for carefree) and always in high spirits.
What is your favorite thing about The Parthenon Group?
I am a big fan of the people at Parthenon. We have a group of brilliant and fun -loving individuals who are really easy to work with. Most of all, people are genuinely nice and like each other. As a result the culture is collaborative and very supportive.
